Primates! and also fire

Week one of Creature Construction & Anatomy - real Primates.  I picked a Cotton-top Tamarin because I like animals with built-in hairdos.  My classmates are kicking my ass so far at realistic rendering, and I had a small moment of crisis when I realized I had no idea how to draw cute cartoony animals, but overall it didn't turn out too bad.  Drawn with mechanical pencil on marker paper, colored in Painter. HW for Creature classes will all look something like this:

And then for Effects Animation, in addition to my bouncy-ball, I got to interpret a natural phenomena.  I wasn't supposed to forget that composition exists but I totally did.  I present to you very sharp fire:

Last semester I did almost all of my drawing digitally.  This semester I just don't have time to do it.  I am probably twice as fast with pencil and paper, and the results tend to be better.  If I had the time this would be a great opportunity to force myself to cut that speed and quality difference down, but it just doesn't exist.   Color will still probably be digital; maybe I will break out the colored pencils; maybe I will invest in some markers; maybe I will go crazy with the pipsqueaks.  ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN!  You know what I really want to try? Watercolor...

Next Week: Imaginary Primates! Animated Fire! Ghostbusters! A Temple!

Hello, Art Blog

How have you been? Probably pretty lonely

...sorry D:

Here, have some ridiculously rudimentary art-stuffs.
Two beginner-artist rites of passage in one week:

1 - The Bouncing Ball Animation (yes, I really did this just now in my last semester at school. shush)

2 - Crates and Barrels - I can now officially call myself a video game artist.

Now I just need to think of a game with barrels full of spiders and poisoned martinis to put these in.

MONSTER!

Loose concept art for Games: Animation class, as well as for the forever upcoming iPhone title...Bonbonsters!

Wow, I suck at this

Ahaha...Hi!

Ok so, here's my work from Spring '09 semester... Aunty, this includes Horus and Bast, who you've been asking to see since like, March, and since I'm also about two weeks late getting this up according to my blogging deal with Randy, you are also getting some chick in a bathing suit and a BBQing guy! Guilt bonus...

These were both done at the stage where I decided that I hated ZBrush and never wanted to work with it again, so, they're kind of embarrassingly terrible considering what I should have learned from working on Horus. Also, buggy eyes, ack! (Also also...all the contact info on this first "demo reel" is already inaccurate...so pay no mind to it!)

Fall Semester Ketchup - Part 2

Final project from my Maya 1 class. This is the one I had to finish over winter break. Not as awesome as I wanted. I had to change some things to appease my instructor (like the ending) and I didn't agree with the changes but it's class so you have to do what you have to do! I'm not as happy with it as the Mummy Massacre "trailer" for that reason. Here it is anywho.

I did my own Foley work on this one with knives and some baking sheets. It is so handy to have an audio guy on call 24/7, I can't even tell you! Musics are totally Jessy, I just critiqued the mixing...

Fall Semester Ketchup - Part 1

Will replace with properly adjusted pictures later...or I may just take the time to do something on my actual website (because, you know, I don't have enough to do already...)

Clothed Figure Drawing from Fall semester. Mostly everything. You may or may not be able to tell when I was being kidney stoned to death, but I can.

Starting off with school provided sports type figures and one picture of myself, studying the art of "Direct Drawing", that is, drawing without doing gestury sketchy work first.

I have no idea what the point of these was or when exactly they were done. Rosy-roo, I used you several times this semester and they did not all turn out very flattering. I have left out the worst of it.

Portrait Week. Also, Kidney Stoned! Check out the Van Gogh style me and the Joker style Rosy. Pat managed to turn out mostly normal.

Hands and Feets and Shoes week. Drawing from and/or photographing my own feet was difficult. I am most happy with the boot.

Catie in a Dress. Mark your calendars. Happy to have finally found another use for the damn thing. 10-15 minute drawings.

Drawing people (me) from low vantage point. V. tired of drawing myself at this point. Avoided it for the rest of the semester thank you cousins and sisters I heart you like woah.

My favorite drawings of the semester, Bit and Juju after Thanksgiving dinner. Would go back and fix up Jihan's hair a bit but otherwise very happy with these.

Kidney Stoned AGAIN!!! Last 3 weeks of class. Liberal use of pain and anti-nausea medicine. I am surprised these even remotely resemble people.
